In 2011, a virus known as Deep Black surfaces in the United States. It is unlike any virus humankind has ever encountered, and unprepared authorities are unable to prevent outbreak.
By 2013, 80% of the worldwide population has perished.
In the aftermath, a conspiracy theorist named Warren Levoy discovers a possible cure for the virus. Before his death, he passes this information to his confidant, Merryn Brennar.
Armed only with what little knowledge Warren was able to provide, Merryn sets out to obtain this cure - an object in the form of an ancient artifact - and save humankind from extinction, knowing that her quest to obtain it, understand it, and implement it may cost her her very life.
